Medical Micro-needling in Leicester

Medical Micro-needling is often referred to as collagen induction therapy and is a method that is used by medical practitioners to treat different skin conditions.

Medical Micro-needling involves using multiple tiny, sterile needles that glide over the skin and cause mild trauma.

This trauma encourages a deeper layer of skin, to rebuild, it also stimulates the production of collagen that is essential to keep the skin looking firm, smooth and youthful.

We offer medical Mico-needling over the face and neck areas. We also combine this treatment with PRP (Platelet-rich-plasma) or vitamins with Mesotherapy as it may speed up the healing process and stimulate skin renewal, potentially producing better results than micro-needling alone.

Micro Needling may help address many skin-related complaints, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Scarring
  • Acne
  • Alopecia
  • Pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Rosacea (redness)

Micro Needling FAQ’s

At Amedics, we use SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics which is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device in the world, it is clinically proven to safely and effectively fight the appearance of face and neck wrinkles and facial acne scars.

Micro-needling is generally considered to be safe and effective when done by a specialist, but there are still some risks. The primary risk is skin irritation after the procedure. Other side effects could include:

  • swelling
  • discomfort at the site
  • redness
  • bruising
  • dryness
  • flaking of the skin

SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s collagen and elastin production, alongside natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling – to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation.

It is clinically proven and clinical trials have shown that 90% of subjects would recommend the treatment to friends and family. It’s a minimally invasive procedure performed in-office with little downtime. As the first FDA-cleared microneedling device and sets the industry standard for safety.

When opting for Micro-needling treatment, it is essential to consider the length of the needle being used, as this affects the depth and scope of the treatment. Needle sizes start at 0.1 mm, which only affects the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin), and can range up to 3.0 mm, thus affecting the deepest layer of the skin (the reticular dermis). Lengths between 0.1 mm and 0.3 mm are used for more superficial. More invasive procedures use needle lengths from 1.5 mm up to 3 mm to reduce scarring and stretch marks.

A full appointment for Micro-needling will take up to 1 hour, to start with the treatment area will be thoroughly cleaned and a topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to ensure the area is numb and more comfortable when undergoing needling. This is left on for 30 minutes.

The treatment will then be carried out using the SkinPen device and can take anything between 10-30 mins depending on the treatment site, additions of extra vitamins or if it is combined with PRP.

After treatment, the site is cleaned, appropriate skincare and SPF is applied, and aftercare is given to the client.

A topical local anaesthetic will be applied and therefore the treatment should not be painful at but there may be some minor discomfort in sensitive areas. During a deeper treatment some patients feel a minor stinging sensation.

This depends on the reason for treatment and your bodies cell renewal process Results are normally visible within the first week, but optimum results can take up to six weeks as the skin continues to repair itself. The regeneration process will continue for several months. If you are undergoing a course of treatments to help with acne scarring, full resurfacing results will be seen after a couple of sessions.

This will depend on the type of condition and reason for undergoing treatment, generally, a course of three to six treatments spaced between 4 and 8 weeks apart is enough. Once you have attained your desired results it is recommended that a single session treatment is performed every six months to maintain the effects.

Micro-needling is suitable for most skin types and people of most ages, however, it may not be suitable for the following:

  • If you are taking Roaccutane, or have been in the past 6 months
  • Open wounds, cuts and abrasions to the skin
  • Active acne or chronic skin conditions
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of poor wound healing, or have had radiation treatment
