Information about vitamin injections

How are Vitamin Injections administered?

Prior to the injection, you will require a consultation to see if the vitamin treatment is suitable for you. If all is well, we cleanse the upper arm and administer the vitamins via a small fine needle directly into the muscle. The treatment takes a couple of minutes and there is no downtime to the injections.

What is vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12, which is also known as cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin, naturally found in foods like meat, fish and dairy. It is also added to other foods and synthesised by bacteria in the small intestine. It is involved in many vital processes in the body, including the production of red blood cells, maintaining a healthy nervous system and creating DNA.

What are the benefits of Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 has a vast number of benefits, some are listed below:

  • Helps to form essential red blood cells and prevention of pernicious anaemia
  • Helps to prevent major birth defects, such as neural tube defects. Furthermore, maternal vitamin B12 deficiency may contribute to premature birth or miscarriage
  • Can help to support bone health and prevent osteoporosis
  • Helps with vision and reduces the risk of eye diseases such as Macular Degeneration
  • Helps to improve mood and symptoms of Depression
  • May benefit the brain by preventing brain atrophy, which is the loss of neurons in the brain and is often associated with memory loss or dementia
  • May improve heart health
  • Supports Healthy Hair, Skin and Nails
What would happen if i do not have enough Vitamin B12?

The symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can take several years to appear, because the body stores approximately 2000 times as much B12 we would typically need.

If you do have a vitamin B12 deficiency, the first symptom is often feeling tired or weak. These are symptoms of anemia, which is a hallmark of vitamin B12 deficiency. Other symptoms you may experience is pale skin, heart palpitations, weight loss, decreased appetite, sensitivity or numbness in your fingers and infertility. Other symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include problems with balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue which can manifest as ulcers.

How often will I need B12 injections?

It is likely you may initially need a loading dose which can be 4-6 injections once a week, followed by top up B12 injections at 8-12 week intervals.

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is also referred to as “calciferol”. It is nicknamed the “sunshine vitamin” as it is produced when ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis. It is also naturally present in a few foods such as fish, eggs, milk, it can be added to others, and available as a dietary supplement by either oral intake or injection.

What are the benefit of Vitamin D

Vitamin D has a huge variety of benefits, some are listed below:

  • Helps with bone and muscle strength
  • Helps to strengthen and support the immune system and fights inflammation
  • Absorbs calcium so helps with maintaining healthy teeth and bones
  • Can help prevent Diabetes and high blood pressure
  • Can help with mood symptoms and depression
  • Can help to optimise weight loss
  • Lowers tiredness and fatigue
How often will I need the Vitamin D injections?

The intramuscular injection of vitamin D alone can maintain increased levels of serum 25(OH)D for at least 6 months. We therefore recommend 9 month intervals for Vitamin D injections.

What is Biotin?

Also known as vitamin H or B7, biotin is one of the B complex water soluble vitamins that is commonly found in foods like eggs, milk, and bananas. It plays an important role in aiding enzymes to break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats from the foods we eat. Without this process, the food wouldn’t be converted into energy for us and our bodies to use, either to help hair grow or simply perform our daily tasks.

How does Biotin help hair growth?

Biotin strengthens the protein keratin that is the main component in our hair, skin and nails. We need Biotin for new hair growth, but also to keep our existing hair thick, strong and shiny. Biotin also encourages the elasticity of our hair, which minimises breakage and split ends. When injected, Biotin helps to gradually replace dry, damaged hair with healthier, stronger hair.

Am I suitable for Biotin hair injections?

If you suffer from loss of hair, reduced volume in certain areas of hair that’s fine and shreds easily, you may be suitable for the Biotin hair growth injections. The injections are also often combined with additional hair restoration treatments such as an IV Vitamin drip and PRP (platelet-rich-plasma) therapy for hair loss.

What are the benefits of Biotin?

Biotin helps with hair in the following ways:

  • Strengthen thinning hair
  • Help prevent hair loss
  • Support hair regrowth and thickness
  • Reduce breakage and split ends
  • Biotin also helps with strengthening nails, helps to increase metabolism and improves blood sugar levels
